“A stripped down version of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream.” It’s amazing. I like Darren Criss’s voice, I always have. This is the emotional performance I was looking for earlier in this episode. You can feel this song (see the look on Kurt’s face). Something is wrong.” X“Best song of the night: Can this be a six-way tie? Honestly, everything was gorgeous. But if we’re picking the one that made us FEEL ALL THE THINGS, it was Blaine’s super-sad, live, piano version of ‘Teenage Dream.’ We’re getting goosebumps just thinking about it.” X“However, Blaine’s reinterpretation of “Teenage Dream” may be my favorite performance of all time. There’s something about singing live that adds a whole other layer of depth to a performance like this, especially contrasted with Glee‘s usual polish. It was a perfect callback to one of the show’s highest highs and carved out a new lowest low. I loved it. A whole, whole lot.” X“After too many episodes, for instance, in which Blaine spoke two lines and burst into song because we needed Darren Criss to sing, his raw, voice-cracking ballad version of ‘Teenage Dream’ was possibly the most affecting acting-through-the-song on Glee since ‘Defying Gravity’ in season one. I’m seriously misting up here typing about it. You’ll have to excuse me for a second.” X“Who else shed a tear when Blaine gave Kurt a rendition of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’? It was the best performance by Darren Criss to date.” X“He chokes out the lyrics while making the saddest face you have ever or will ever see. Like, I’ve seen some sad things in my life. Those Sarah McLachlan homeless dog commercials? Sad. The end of Titanic? Sad. Every time one of The Doctor’s companions gets stranded in a parallel universe? Sad. I Am Sam, A Walk to Remember, Steel Magnolias, The Notebook, My Girl? Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad. But nothing in this life has ever been as sad as Blaine singing this song. His voice cracks, his face drops, his heart breaks.” X“Darren Criss, in turn, breaks every heart that has ever beat with a stripped down ‘him and a piano’ reprisal of ‘Teenage Dream,’ the song that made Blaine Anderson a star. I know the Emmys just happened, but if Criss submits ‘The Break Up’ he should be a lock for a nomination. He performs the song on a constant brink of collapse. It’s beautiful and sad in a way ‘Teenage Dream’ doesn’t even deserve, but to Criss’ credit he sells every quiver. It’s a fantastic performance in an television episode filled with them.” X“Blaine wins the Most Heartbreaking Song award tonight, though, with a tearful rendition of ‘Teenage Dream’ that harkens back to his introduction back in season two. It’s such a treat to hear a performance on Glee that hasn’t been auto-tuned to death, and the show did a really great job at making this as heartbreaking as possible.” X“Blaine steps up next to perform a stripped-down, piano version of Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’, the first song he ever sung to Kurt. We need to give a major round of applause for Darren Criss here - his performance is by far the best of the season and arguably one of the most impactful ever seen on Glee. With tears practically flooding his lungs, you both hear Blaine’s voice and feel the man himself creaking wonderfully under the emotion of it all. It’s gorgeous and heartbreaking.” X

You made me feel like I was living a teenage dream. The way you turned me on. I can’t sleep. You ran away and you never looked back, you’d never turn back.
